The short answer
Most cooktop problems, including burners that won't ignite, constant clicking, weak flames, and induction error codes, come from a specific part such as an igniter, spark module, valve, or control board that can be replaced. On a high-end built-in cooktop, repair is usually the better choice unless the cooktop surface is badly damaged or parts are no longer available.
A cooktop that won't light, clicks nonstop, or heats unevenly makes daily cooking harder than it should be. Sub-Zero Service Center repairs gas, electric, and induction cooktops for homeowners in Wilmington and nearby cities, including Harbor City, San Pedro, Carson, Lomita, and Long Beach. Many of the kitchens we work in are built around Sub-Zero refrigeration, and we also service the cooktops that usually sit beside it: Viking, Wolf, and Thermador models, whether they are built into a countertop or part of a professional-style setup. We are an independent repair company and not affiliated with any of these brands. Our goal is to find the actual fault, explain it plainly, and fix it so the cooktop works the way it did when it was installed.
Issues we fix
These are the symptoms homeowners most often call us about. If you notice one of them, stop using the affected burner or zone until it has been checked. If you ever smell gas, turn the cooktop off, leave the house, and call your gas utility or 911 before calling us.
- Burners that won't ignite, or that light only after several tries
- Igniters that keep clicking after the flame is lit, or click when the cooktop is off
- Weak, yellow, or uneven flames, or a burner that goes out on low simmer
- Uneven heat across a pan, or a burner stuck on high or low
- Electric elements that don't heat or only heat part of the way
- Induction zones that don't detect the pan, cut out mid-cook, or show error codes
- Touch controls or knobs that don't respond, or a control panel that stays dark
- Cracked or chipped glass-ceramic surfaces and damaged burner grates or caps

What our technician checks on a built-in or professional-style cooktop
We start by asking what you've noticed and when it started, then confirm the symptom ourselves. On a gas cooktop, we check the igniters, the spark module, burner caps and heads for alignment and debris, the gas valves, and the flame pattern at each setting. Spills that reach the igniter or the switch behind a knob cause a lot of clicking and no-light complaints, so we look there early.
On electric and induction units, we test elements, induction coils, power boards, cooling fans, temperature sensors, and the touch controls. We also confirm that the circuit and connections are supplying correct power, because a supply problem can look like a failed part. For cooktops set into custom counters or islands, we check how the unit is mounted and how it can be safely accessed before removing anything.
How Sub-Zero, Viking, Wolf and Thermador cooktops differ
Sub-Zero is a refrigeration brand, so it doesn't make cooktops itself. In many Sub-Zero kitchens, the cooktop next to it is a Wolf, its sister cooking brand. Wolf gas cooktops use stacked burners designed for both high heat and a very low simmer. When they act up, the cause is often an igniter, a spark module, or debris and misalignment in the burner assembly. Wolf induction and electric models more often come down to sensors, boards, or touch controls.
Viking gas cooktops are built for heavy, professional-style use. Common repairs include worn igniters, switches behind the knobs that stick after spills, and valves that no longer hold a steady flame. Thermador cooktops, including models with its star-shaped burners and its induction lines, tend to bring us ignition and simmer issues on gas units and electronic or sensor faults on induction units. Each brand has its own parts and service procedures, so we diagnose against the specific model rather than guessing.

Repair or replace a high-end cooktop?
For most premium cooktops, repair makes sense. These units are built with serviceable parts, and replacing a single igniter, valve, sensor, or board is usually far less disruptive than replacing the whole cooktop. Replacement can also mean recutting stone or reworking cabinetry if the new unit doesn't match the old cutout.
Replacement is worth considering when the glass-ceramic surface is badly cracked, several major components are failing at once, the burner box shows serious corrosion, or the parts for an older model are no longer available. We'll tell you what we find and lay out both options so you can decide with full information.
What affects the cost of a cooktop repair
We give you a clear estimate after diagnosis and before any work begins. The final cost depends on a few things:
- The fault itself: cleaning and realigning a burner is a smaller job than replacing a control board or induction coil
- The parts needed, and whether they are common or have to be ordered for a specific model
- Access, especially on cooktops set into custom cabinetry, islands, or stone counters where removal takes extra care
- Whether the problem involves more than one component, such as a spill that affected both a switch and an igniter
How a service visit works
When you contact us, we'll ask for the brand, the model number if you can find it, and a short description of the problem. Gas or induction, and any error codes you've seen, also help us prepare. We schedule a visit and arrive ready to diagnose.
At your home, the technician confirms the symptom, tests the likely components, and explains the fault in plain terms. You get an estimate before any repair starts. If we carry the part, we can often finish the same visit. If the part has to be ordered, we schedule a return trip once it arrives. Before we leave, we test every burner or zone and protect your counters and cabinetry while we work.
